Sprout Sessions - OnDMARC - How to prevent phishing
BY Anna Adamovics

Phishing is the most significant cyber threat to the UK Legal Sector.

How do we know?

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) worked together with the Law Society, SRA, National Crime Agency and ActionFraud to determine the most significant cyber threat to the UK Legal Sector.

The review of the data overwhelmingly evidenced that phishing was the most significant problem.

In 2018 one of the NCSC industry legal partners reported that it received over 11,500 phishing emails per month, amounting to each member of staff being hit with 23 phishing attacks - more than one every working day. 90% of targeted cyber attacks start with a phishing email.

It follows then, that if you fix the phishing problem, you reduce the opportunity for 90% of targeted cyber attacks e.g. data breach. The costs associated with data breach include the GDPR fine (up to Eur20 million or 4% of global annual turnover whichever is higher).

What can law firms do to prevent phishing attacks?

There is a well known ‘fix’ which defends against phishing attacks. It’s called DMARC. It’s a global industry standard.

Join us on this educational morning seminar to learn more about DMARC and how it can support your business.

Watch the recording of Sprout's morning seminar at Quadrant Chambers on the 26th September 2019.
